The recent flood in Enchi has caused visible damage to several properties. Beyond properties, heaps of garbage has been assembled at various points, especially in water ways, gutters and passages. This situation threatens the health of the people. It is in this direction that the President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama has declared 2 days, Friday 10th July and Saturday 11th July 2026 as days
These two days will be used for clearing rubbish and garbage that are deposited by the rains and floods. This declaration by the President is different from the usual sanitation day that occurs every month. Opening the Special post flood Sanitation Programme, the Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Wilbert Petty Brendum, called on all participants to support this initiative by the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.
It is in our own interest as citizens. He encouraged everybody to be part of the Special Sanitation Programme.
The Sanitation Programme was very well attended. Participants included security workers, government workers, school students, and the general public.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Aowin, Hon. Stephen Ntow Morcher, assured the public of the Assembly’s commitment to ensure that such exercises to promote cleanliness in Aowin will be organized from time to time. He pledged to commit resources from the Assembly, including the Drip machines will be used for such exercises.
Hon. Morcher mentioned that the Atua stream, the main drainage system in Enchi, will be desilted and concreted as a final solution to flooding in Enchi. ⑥ Hon. Stephen Ntow Morcher, MCE for Aowin, observed that participants of the special clean-up exercise were mostly non-natives of Aowin. He noted that most natives of Aowin stayed in their homes and failed to turn up for the clean-up. He warned that there would be tough consequences for such people if they fail to turn up next time.
